“The
best translation
available to you is: the one you will read”
The interlinear translation, sometimes
referred to as transliteration, is the most direct translation
available. It is
so direct, it is next to unreadable. An interlinear Bible
will have the original Hebrew or Greek text (in the correct
syntax for the source language) and the English words directly
above or below the Hebrew/Greek. No attempt is made to
put the English words in an intelligible sequence; in fact
just the opposite is true, it is designed to give you access
to the syntax of the original language. No thought is given to
literary quality or readability. Hebrew / Greek idioms are
usually not translated into equivalent English
idioms.
For
example, the Spanish phrase “Como esta’ su media Naranja”
(Literally “How is you half orange?”)
How
is
your
half
Orange?
Would
be translated:
Como
esta’
su
media
Naranja?
Best
Uses:
Good for in depth word studies where access to the original
language is needed.
Most interlinear Bibles have numbers associated with
each Hebrew / Greek word to aid the reader in looking up those
words in a Hebrew / Greek Lexicon. Some interlinear
Bibles come with a Hebrew and Greek dictionary in the
back.
